Duisburg, 19.11.2020. Over 40% of all people have no access to hygienic sanitary facilities. Today's World Toilet Day draws attention to this. CWS has been supporting the German Toilet Organization for several years.

CWS, an integrated system provider for the solution areas of Hygiene, Workwear, Fire Protection, Cleanroom as well as Healthcare, is committed to a healthier and safer tomorrow. This is why the company supports the German Toilet Organization (GTO) in its activities.

The cooperation between CWS and GTO has existed since the NGO was founded in 2005 and focuses on hygiene education in schools and raising public awareness of the issue. "With the outbreak of the corona virus, the topic of hygiene has received worldwide attention," says Dr. Maren Otte, Group Director Corporate Communications & Responsibility at CWS. "Nevertheless, especially today it is extremely important to talk about hygienic sanitary facilities. Access to them is by no means a given – not even in Germany.”

Many city centres lack public washrooms. In some schools, the situation of the toilet facilities is so bad that pupils prefer to avoid using the sanitary facilities. In view of the Corona pandemic and the importance of hand hygiene for health prevention, this is a risk for pupils, but also for their teachers and families.

Worldwide, the situation is even more dramatic: over 40% of people have no access to hygienic sanitation facilities. In the days leading up to World Toilet Day, CWS therefore  took its social media  followers on a virtual journey to the " world’s smallest rooms". It presented different customs surrounding the toilet  were presented without concealing local problems.

The company also supports the German Toilet Organization in providing hygiene education in schools. The cooperation partners are thus building on already successful projects, such as the "Toilets making the Grade" competition, which reached around 76,000 pupils at 159 schools in 2012/13 and 2018/19.
