Fire alarm system - advice, installation & maintenance

A fire alarm system is connected to various fire detectors. It provides early warning of smoke and fire and has a connection to the local fire brigade. In the event of a fire, manual fire detectors (red manual push-buttons) as well as automatic fire detectors (e.g. smoke detectors) send information to the fire alarm control centre. This triggers the alarm of the local fire brigade, the internal alarm as well as possible fire controls. Fire controls are responsible, for example, for opening smoke outlets, closing fire barriers and other fire protection equipment.

Areas of application of fire alarm systems

Fire alarm systems are preferably used in industrial and commercial buildings as well as in all applications with building authority requirements for special buildings.

Requirements for fire alarm systems

The requirement for a fire alarm system comes from the building permit or the fire protection concept. The fire alarm system is installed in accordance with the specifications of DIN 14675 (construction and operation of fire alarm systems) and DIN VDE 0833-1/2 (hazard detection systems).

Testing, inspection and maintenance of a fire alarm system

A fire alarm system must be approved by an expert after installation. In addition, the following intervals must be observed:

  • Visual inspection: every 3 months check for soiling and damage to fire alarm components, structural changes as well as changes to the surrounding situation.
  • Inspection: to be carried out by a specialist company at least once a quarter in accordance with DIN 14675.
  • Maintenance: to be carried out by a specialist company at least once a year according to DIN 14675.
  • Recurring inspection: required at least every 3 years by an inspection expert according to TPrüfV (Technical Inspection Ordinance).

All events must be documented by keeping an operating log.
