Safety signage provides people with orientation in the event of danger. They ensure that escape and rescue routes remain visible if the general lighting fails, reduce the risk of accidents and save lives in an emergency. People can leave the building safely and emergency services can move quickly to the scene of the fire.
They must be adapted to the individual building conditions and comply with numerous legal and technical requirements.
CWS Fire Safety advises and supports you in choosing the right safety signage in accordance with ASR A1.3. We work closely with you to design and install the right system.

Need for emergency and safety lighting
Overview of the regulations
Criteria for lighting and signage
In the event of a power failure or the development of fire or smoke, safety signs must show people the way out or to a safe place. This is required by the:
- Workplace Ordinance (§ 4 (3)),
- Technical rules for workplaces ASR A3.1, A3.4.3,
- DIN EN 1838 (emergency lighting) and
- VDE 0108 (Power installations and safety power supply in buildings for gatherings of people)
In addition, the installation is often required by authorities, insurance companies or the fire protection concept. At the same time, proper safety lighting is based on complex regulations. These include criteria such as illuminance, operating time, emergency power supply and the labelling of escape and rescue routes. The same applies to escape and fire safety signs, whose size, material and recognition range are specified.
Testing of safety labelling
Regular inspections are required after technical and structural changes have been made to your safety lighting VDE standards regulate the details, including the regular functionality tests, tests to check the illuminance or tests for the signs. The owner or operator of the building is responsible for making sure that these tests and inspections are carried out and can delegate this task to qualified service providers such as CWS Fire Safety. We will keep and eye on the deadlines for you and will reliably carry out the necessary maintenance work.
Please note: The reports on recurring inspections that we hand over to you must be kept for five years.
