In the event of a fire, rapid firefighting by the fire department is also a question of the available extinguishing water supply in the building. In addition to traditional hydrants or extinguishing water tanks on fire engines, one option is to feed extinguishing water into a building's risers.

Extinguishing water supply in case of fire

The fire department can feed extinguishing water into dry extinguishing water pipes and other fire protection equipment (e.g. wall hydrants or extinguishing systems) via extinguishing water feed systems. Extinguishing water is quickly and reliably available to the emergency services where they need it. This means they can carry out the extinguishing attack via extraction facilities in the building. As a result, the (costly) laying of fire hoses in the building is no longer necessary and escape and rescue routes can still be used without tripping hazards. It also prevents the function of fire doors or gates from being impaired.

Dry extinguishing water supply

The extinguishing water is primarily fed into dry extinguishing water systems in accordance with DIN 14462, meaning that the dry risers are only filled with extinguishing water from the fire engine in the event of a fire. In contrast to type F wall hydrants or wet extinguishing water systems, however, there is a time delay before they are ready for use, as the pipes are not already filled with extinguishing water and are under pressure.

DIN 14462 specifications

In accordance with DIN 14462, a separate extinguishing water feed point is required for each riser or fire protection system. A connection between different extinguishing water systems is not permitted in order to ensure that a fault in one system does not affect the other system.

In addition to standard solutions, special designs are also possible in which two or more devices for the extinguishing water supply can be combined in a single protective cabinet. Our experts will be happy to advise you on a customized solution for your project.

Drinking water protection also relevant for extinguishing water supply

Drinking water protection is also relevant for the fire department feed of extinguishing water. For example, external water without drinking water quality is supplied via the extinguishing water feed fitting in dry extinguishing water systems. In the case of an external water feed into wet extinguishing water systems, this is only permitted if an extinguishing water transfer point with storage tank is installed.

Good to know: The extinguishing water supply must comply with the standard. Any deviations must be agreed with the responsible building authority.
