The Fire Protection Ordinance is a central component of safety precautions in buildings. It specifies measures and regulations to prevent fires, minimise their spread and enable a rapid response in an emergency.
We provide you with a comprehensive overview of the various parts as well as the legal requirements and inspection obligations.
What is the Fire Protection Ordinance?
The Fire Protection Ordinance provides clear instructions for behaviour in the event of a fire and contains preventive measures for fire prevention. The ordinance is divided into three parts, each of which addresses specific target groups.
Fire Protection Ordinance Part A
Part A is aimed at all persons present in a building, such as visitors or residents. It contains basic rules of behaviour in the event of a fire and is clearly visible in the building. These instructions are intended to provide quick orientation in the event of an emergency so that people can leave the building safely and in an organised manner.
Fire Protection Ordinance Part B
Part B is intended for the employees of a company and contains detailed measures for fire prevention. These include instructions on preventing the spread of fire and smoke and on keeping escape and rescue routes clear. Employees must receive this information as part of fire safety training, which is carried out regularly. Part B must also be handed out in written form.
Fire Protection Ordinance Part C
Part C is aimed at employees with special tasks in organisational fire safety, such as fire safety officers, fire safety assistants or first aid officers. This part contains detailed instructions and further information that are necessary to coordinate rescue and firefighting measures in the event of an emergency.
Fire protection regulation according to DIN 14096
Whether a fire protection regulation is prescribed in a building is set out in the building permit.
The requirements for the design and content of the fire safety regulations are set out in DIN 14096. It must also be coordinated and approved with the building supervisory authority and the local fire protection authority to ensure that the regulation contains all the necessary measures.
Regular inspection is important
An inspection by a competent person is recommended at least every two years. This ensures that all specifications continue to comply with current legal requirements and can be implemented in practice.
