Gerke, Team Leader Security Technology
From our series "Passion for fire safety", where we introduce employees who are also active in the volunteer fire department 🚒, today we are introducing Gerke from the CWS Fire Safety branch in Bremen. He is the team leader for security technology there. His tasks include the planning, installation and maintenance of fire alarm systems or burglar alarm systems, for example.
From electronics technician to safety technology team leader
Gerke was already socially active in the youth fire brigade 🧑🚒 and is still active in the volunteer fire brigade in his hometown. "I take care of maintenance in the fire station and also keep an eye on the fire protection equipment. This way I combine my knowledge for both activities," says Gerke. He trained as an electronics technician for energy and building technology 🔌 and continued to develop through further training until he took on his current management role at CWS Fire Safety.
Exercise at CWS Fire Safety
"My comrades and I have already had a training exercise at CWS Fire Safety Bremen. The storage rooms were fogged up with a fog machine ☁️ and we had to find and rescue human-sized dolls 🧍 🧍♀️. As a firefighter 🧑🏻🚒 I know that you have less than 10 minutes to orient yourself and organize yourself on site in an emergency. Such exercises as well as the up-to-date fire service plans 📍 and the like are extremely important in order to protect and save people," he adds.
