Isabel - Working student in human resources

Isabel has been working for us as a student trainee in Human Resources since October 2024. She supports us in recruiting, in our internal training centre ‘Fire Safety Academy’ and the HR business partners. The HR working student shared her experiences and impressions with us in an interview.

Diverse tasks as a working student in Human Resources

Isabel talks about her varied tasks in Recruiting: "I sift through the applications, enter them into the HR system and forward them to the specialist departments. We also have regular team meetings and liaise with job portal service providers and headhunters." She also takes on various tasks at the Fire Safety Academy, such as creating a qualification matrix for our technicians and helping to organise training courses. ‘There's always something to do at the Academy, you're constantly meeting new people and can get actively involved,’ she explains. She also supports the HR business partners in processing the daily mail and in projects such as analysing the employee satisfaction survey. These varied tasks make the working student job in HR particularly exciting for Isabel.

Fun and challenges as a working student in human resources

Isabel enjoys working in personnel development at the Fire Safety Academy the most. The contact with the many different employees and the dialogue within the team are particularly enriching for her. She also appreciates the fact that she can bring her dog ‘Minnie’, a French bulldog, to work with her. ‘Minnie lies quietly in her basket, but she also likes to visit the technicians, which always creates a good atmosphere,’ she says with a smile.

The biggest challenge in her working student job in HR was initially organising the two different areas - Recruiting and the Academy. However, Isabel has found a solution that works for both teams: "I work four days a week. Two days I work from home and only do recruiting tasks. On the other two days, I travel to the Fire Safety Academy and concentrate solely on this area. This allows me to fully focus on each topic," reports Isabel.

The job interview: quick and uncomplicated

Her start as a working student in HR at CWS Fire Safety was quick and uncomplicated. "An hour after sending my application, I received a call from the recruiter and we had our first interview on the same day. The interview was relaxed and easy-going, so my excitement quickly disappeared," recalls Isabel. The second interview, a week later, was also positive and she quickly received a job offer for the working student job in HR.

Why CWS Fire Safety?

When Isabel discovered the position as a working student in Human Resources, the tasks in particular appealed to her - the flexibility and regional proximity to her home were a big advantage for her. ‘I felt very comfortable and valued in the interview, which was a decisive factor for me in choosing CWS Fire Safety,’ she says. Although she had no previous experience in the field of fire safety, she felt well received right from the start and was able to learn a lot about fire safety at the Academy.

The working atmosphere at CWS Fire Safety

"The positive feeling I had at the interview was confirmed on my first day at work. There was a relaxed atmosphere, the entire HR team was on site at the Academy and we held a meeting together. I felt integrated straight away - a great start," says Isabel, describing her first impressions. The working atmosphere at CWS Fire Safety is described by the HR student trainee as particularly relaxed, friendly and appreciative. She feels fully integrated into the team and has already made suggestions for improvement, which have been implemented.

What happens next? As Isabel's studies are coming to an end soon, she hopes to continue working at the Fire Safety Academy after her time at CWS Fire Safety. ‘I would like to continue working in personnel development, as I really like this area,’ she says enthusiastically.

Tips for future working students

Finally, Isabel gives a valuable tip to future working students in HR: "I had no previous experience in HR and it wasn't easy to even be invited to an interview. But I kept applying and it worked out. My tip is to stay relaxed and apply for the area that interests you!"
