Pneumatic SHEV system

Reliable fire protection thanks to energy-independent smoke and heat extraction systems.

9 December 2024 Fire Safety

Smoke and heat extraction systems (SHEVS for short) play a crucial role in the fire protection of buildings. In the event of a fire, they enable smoke and heat to be extracted from the building in a controlled manner in order to keep escape routes clear and facilitate the rescue of people and the protection of property.

One variant of the SHEVS is the pneumatic SHEVS system.

Functionality of a pneumatic SHEV system

Pneumatic SHEV systems can either be activated individually for each fume cupboard opening by a thermal triggering device (TAG for short) with variable triggering temperatures or in groups via remote triggering on the alarm box, which uses pressurised CO2 gas cylinders. Due to the minimal amount of material required, these systems are particularly environmentally friendly and low-maintenance.

Good to know: Pneumatic SHEV systems can also be used for daily ventilation with the appropriate control system.

Energy independence as a safety advantage

A decisive advantage of the pneumatic system is that it is completely energy self-sufficient. In contrast to electric SHEV systems, the pneumatic version does not require an external power supply. This offers a considerable safety advantage in the event of a power failure, which is often associated with fires.

Pneumatic SHEV systems are particularly popular in buildings that place high demands on the operational safety and independence of fire protection systems. Typical locations include

  • Industrial halls and warehouses
  • Event halls and shopping centres
  • Underground car parks
  • Schools and public buildings
