Background: EU ban on PFAS in foam extinguishers
The European Union has decided to gradually ban the use of per- and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFAS) in foam extinguishers. These substances are considered to be persistent, difficult to break down and potentially harmful to the environment and health. From October 2026, foam extinguishers containing PFAS extinguishing agents may no longer be placed on the market, with transition periods applying to existing devices. This particularly affects traditional foam extinguishers that previously contained fluorinated additives.
By switching to fluorine-free foam extinguishers at an early stage, COMPO EXPERT is already sending a clear signal today – and demonstrating that sustainable fire protection and maximum safety can go hand in hand.
