What is it actually like to work as a student trainee in marketing at CWS Fire Safety? We asked – and Siyar gave us an insight into what he does in his student job.
Marketing roles

Siyar has been working as a working student in marketing at the Duisburg site since the start of 2026. “Time really flies,” he says – after a good four and a half months. His day-to-day routine? Pretty varied. Typical for a working student in marketing and social media: creating job postings, preparing social media posts based on blog articles, community management, but also helping out with the internal newsletter or occasionally designing flyers. Or, as Siyar puts it himself: “I just help out wherever I can.”
Variety & creativity
What makes the job special for him: it never gets boring. “Some of my tasks are set, but new ones keep cropping up – that’s exactly what I like.” Especially when you’re working as a working student in social media and marketing, that’s a huge plus. You can be creative, try things out – and see the results straight away. Siyar tells us: “You see the fruits of your labour in the form of metrics. And there isn’t a clear-cut right or wrong. Lots of things influence a successful post.”
When asked for three hashtags that describe his working student job, he comes up with the following:
- #creative
- #digital
- #meaningful
Or, in his own words: “We do all this to create security.”
Challenges in a working student role
The biggest challenge? All the fire safety topics. “Especially when writing blog posts, I first had to familiarise myself with new terminology and regulations,” Siyar tells us. That also means doing your own research, asking questions or gathering feedback. But that’s exactly how you grow. His conclusion: “It’s a vast field, but nothing is impossible.”
An unexpected side effect: you suddenly notice things you hadn’t seen before. “I suddenly pay attention to things like whether the fire extinguisher is from CWS Fire Safety.” And when he had to change the battery in a smoke alarm himself, it dawned on him: “Before, I thought it all just worked – now I know how important it is and that you also have to look after all the fire safety products.”

Why CWS Fire Safety?
He had several offers – but he made a conscious decision to choose CWS Fire Safety. “The industry wasn’t important to me, but the role was. I wanted a creative role, and the interview was pleasant too. I didn’t get the feeling that I was being promised something that wouldn’t turn out to be true in the end,” our working student tells us.
How was settling in? “The start wasn’t perfect. The first two weeks were a bit chaotic.” At the beginning, Siyar had to find his feet first; a lot of it was new. But: asking questions was always an option – and that’s exactly what helped him settle in quickly. What made the difference was the team. “Everyone gave me a very warm welcome – especially during the breaks.” This not only helped him settle in, but also made him feel at home straight away. Siyar: “You shouldn’t just get through the induction phase, but really settle in.” And that’s exactly what he managed to do – today he says: “I enjoy coming to work.”
Personal development & tips for working students
The job helps you get ahead – and not just on your CV. “I never thought fire safety would be so wide-ranging,” says Siyar. At the same time, he’s developing his marketing skills – particularly in social media and design. That’s exactly what many people are looking for in a working student. Siyar himself is studying social sciences with a focus on management and already had some marketing experience, but he adds: “Theory and practice are two completely different things.”
His most important advice if you want to start out as a working student in marketing or social media: “Don’t give up – the first job is the hardest.” After that, it gets much easier. And: just give it a go. “Don’t be afraid to try out different areas.”
