Grease fires are among the most dangerous types of fires because they spread quickly and can be exacerbated by incorrect extinguishing methods. The grease fire extinguisher has been specially developed for kitchen environments and is approved for:
- Fire class A – solid, predominantly organic materials such as wood, paper, or textiles
- Fire class F – cooking oils and fats
Important: A grease fire extinguisher is not suitable for fires in fire classes B (liquids) and C (gases).
Areas of application for grease fire extinguishers
The grease fire extinguisher works with a special salt or foam extinguishing agent that is specifically designed to combat grease fires. Thanks to its special mode of action, it is ideal for use in:
- Commercial kitchens, canteens, and restaurants
- Bakeries and snack bars
- Shipping and chain restaurants
- Optionally also in private households with deep fryers or similar appliances
How a grease fire extinguisher works
Upon contact with burning grease, a process known as saponification immediately begins:
- The extinguishing agent forms a dense, compact protective layer.
- This layer cools the oil or fat below the auto-ignition temperature.
- At the same time, the oxygen supply is effectively interrupted.
This reliably prevents the fire from reigniting or reigniting – a decisive advantage over unsuitable extinguishing attempts, for example with water.
