Powder extinguishers are among the most powerful fire extinguishers and reliably combat fires in fire classes A, B, and C:

  • Fire class A: Solid, predominantly organic materials (e.g., wood, paper, textiles)
  • Fire class B: Liquid or liquefying materials (e.g., paints, tar, gasoline)
  • Fire class C: Gases (e.g., natural gas, methane, propane, hydrogen)

Note: Powder extinguishers are available in ABC or BC versions. ABC powder extinguishers cover all three fire classes, while BC powder extinguishers are only suitable for fire classes B and C.

Product features of powder extinguishers

Our powder extinguishers are available in various designs – as stored pressure extinguishers or rechargeable powder extinguishers. You can also choose between different operating mechanisms, such as a hand lever or automatic strike button. The most important technical features at a glance:

  • Activation: strike button or hand lever
  • Functionality: rechargeable or stored pressure extinguisher
  • Operating range: can be used from -30 °C to +60 °C
  • Sizes: available with 2 kg, 6 kg, 9 kg, or 12 kg
  • Safety & approval: Suitable for electrical systems up to 1,000 volts (non-conductive), officially tested and certified according to DIN EN 3, GS, and CE

This means that our powder extinguishers can be used reliably both outdoors (frost-proof, e.g., in garages or carports) and in commercial and industrial environments.

Recommendations for use of powder extinguishers

Powder is one of the most efficient extinguishing agents. However, in indoor areas with sensitive infrastructure (e.g., server rooms, IT, machine parks), alternative extinguishing agents such as foam or water extinguishers should be preferred. In outdoor areas, warehouses, or production halls, powder extinguishers impress with their high extinguishing power and fast area coverage. Our experts at CWS Fire Safety will be happy to advise you on which extinguishing agent is the best choice for your individual requirements.

Maintenance & service for your powder extinguishers

Powder extinguishers in commercial and public buildings must be inspected regularly. DIN 14406 stipulates that they must be serviced at least every 24 months by a qualified technician. With the all-inclusive package from CWS Fire Safety, we take care of the following for you:

  • Delivery and professional installation
  • Regular maintenance and inspections
  • Optional maintenance contracts for automatic scheduling

Our experts ensure that your powder extinguishers are always ready for use and tested in accordance with standards.

Sustainability of our powder extinguishers

CWS Fire Safety powder extinguishers are designed to conserve resources. After replacement, the extinguishing agent is not disposed of, but recycled using a special process. This means it can be reused and even used later as fertilizer in agriculture. This sustainable replacement principle extends the service life of the extinguishers and reduces material consumption at the same time.
