Video surveillance system - advice, installation & testing

With a video surveillance system (VÜA) you protect yourself, your employees, data and material assets. Observations can be made immediately, recordings can be stored, evaluated and replayed. This supports the activities of security services or the police.

Use of video surveillance systems

Video surveillance systems can be installed in commercial buildings, retail trade, gastronomy, in public spaces, in residential buildings or even mobile for a construction site. They are used for control and monitoring purposes, including for example:

  • Alarm verification in case of burglary, robbery or fire
  • Detection of criminal offences such as theft, embezzlement
  • Monitoring of the premises, outside and inside
  • Perpetrator deterrence, e.g. in case of arson, sabotage, vandalism and assault
  • Perpetrator localisation and tracking
  • Interaction with access control systems for persons or vehicles

Components of a video surveillance system

Depending on the application, a video surveillance system consists of the following components:

  • Camera (e.g. indoor, outdoor, thermal) and, if required, with lighting
  • Control and storage unit
  • Output units such as monitors
  • Connectors such as cables, distributors, switches, etc.

Video surveillance system according to VdS specifications (class A, B or C)

Depending on the protection goals and specifications, installation according to VdS specifications VdS 2366, DIN VDE 0100 as well as DIN VDE 0800 is also possible.

Data protection with video surveillance

The data protection law of the respective federal state must be taken into account. In addition, the DSGVO provides for a transparency obligation for video surveillance systems. As a result, a sign with a pictogram must refer to the camera surveillance
