14 December 2021 Fire Safety

After more than 20 years of cooperative development by industry, insurance companies and fire brigades, the new European standard EN14972-1:2020 provides a uniform basis for the construction of water mist extinguishing systems. It has been mandatory for all member countries since July 2021 at the latest, after the transition period for implementation expired on 30 June 2021. The aim is to ensure that only safe water mist extinguishing systems that have been demonstrably tested are built.

Uniform regulations for design and fire tests

Part 1 of EN 14972 specifies the requirements for planning, installation, maintenance and servicing of any water mist extinguishing system. At the same time, EN 14972 Part 2 - 17 specifies the requirements for fire tests. Thus, all fire tests are standardised with uniform test protocols, which form the basis for VdS, FM, CEN and LPCB certifications. There are currently sixteen different test protocols for different areas of application, e.g. in warehouses, offices or hotel rooms.
In addition, the standards for nozzles, valves, filters and pumps as well as other applications are still being developed. Consequently, the standard is subject to continuous further development based on experience.

Sustainable extinguishing with water mist

CWS Fire Safety exclusively plans and installs water mist extinguishing systems from the internationally leading Danish manufacturer VID Fire-Kill. The low-pressure water mist extinguishing systems comply with EN 14972-1:2020.

The systems have been extensively and successfully tested in numerous fire trials. The water mist extinguishing systems work with an operating pressure of 8-16 bar and closed or open nozzles. The use of conventional sprinkler components is possible. At the same time, the nozzles can be integrated into almost any type of surface by means of various finishes and paints.

CWS Fire Safety will take care of the planning, installation, acceptance and maintenance of your water mist extinguishing system. This means you get everything from a single source - throughout Germany.
