CWS Workwear reopens laundry in Trossingen after extensive modernisation measures

29 October 2024 Workwear

Trossingen, 29 October 2024 – Following a major investment of almost five million euros, CWS Workwear opened its modernised laundry in Trossingen yesterday. The site is now one of the most modern and environmentally friendly CWS Workwear laundries in Europe. CWS Workwear thereby sets new standards in sustainability, efficiency and quality.

The use of a new washing machine (plant 2), a dosing system, a low-temperature finisher and other state-of-the-art systems means that the washing process now uses considerably fewer resources. The new facilities save water, detergent and energy and treat the textiles particularly gently. This means that the workwear remains in circulation for longer and the life cycle of the products is sustainably extended. This resource-saving care is an integral part of CWS Workwear's circular business model, which covers the entire lifespan of a garment – from washing to repair and recycling.

In addition to the measures that support CWS Workwear’s sustainability efforts and strategy, the capacity of the plant has been increased. “Our laundry here in Trossingen is the heart of our customer service in southwest Germany. From here, we reliably supply our customers with 31,000 items per day and now have the option of expanding our capacity to up to 45,000 items,” explains Andrei Craznic, Operations Manager of the CWS Workwear Laundry Trossingen.

Carsten Best, Regional Managing Director DACH at CWS Workwear: “Our laundry, consisting of two plants, comprehensive service and logistics capacities, a customer service and administrative departments, offers jobs for around 290 employees. These ensure that the entire southwestern region of Germany is reliably supplied from Trossingen.”

Innovation and sustainability at the core of the corporate strategy

CWS Workwear combines innovation and sustainability in a circular business model that is consistently geared towards the conservation of resources and durability. Sustainable “Workwear as a Service” is a central element of the corporate strategy. The aim is to double the lifespan of the clothing by 2030, significantly reduce waste and costs, and minimise quality defects. “The modernisation of our Trossingen site is a clear investment in the future. The advanced technologies offer our customers not only the highest hygiene standards, but also sustainable care for their workwear,” explains Oliver Mäske, Chief Operating Officer at CWS Workwear.

In order to further increase efficiency, additional investments of two million euros are planned in the laundry, according to the COO. These include, among other things, the expansion of a modern sorting area, in which X-ray technology detects external objects, as well as a new washing machine in Plant 1.

Regional roots and long-term commitment

“With this modernisation, we are also underlining our commitment to the Trossingen region and Baden-Würrtemberg as well as to the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency,” says Carsten Best. The history of the CWS Workwear site began in 1900. From its base in Trossingen, CWS Workwear now supplies around 5,500 customers with fresh and safe workwear and protective clothing every day, thereby strengthening the local economy and infrastructure.
