Brașov, 18 September 2026 – CWS Workwear, a European leader in sustainable workwear as service, has opened a new industrial laundry facility in Brașov following an investment of approximately EUR 3M. The official opening event brought together representatives of customers, CWS Workwear's international and local management, local authorities, the diplomatic community and the German-Romanian business community.
The investment marks a new stage for CWS Workwear in the Romanian market. As operations are progressively scaled up, the facility is designed to reach a processing capacity of approximately 22,000 garments per day, equivalent to 11–12 tonnes of textiles.
CWS Workwear has a team of 45 employees working from Brașov and provides services to companies in sectors where safety, hygiene and compliance are essential, such as automotive, food, pharmaceuticals, industrial manufacturing, chemicals and logistics. Brașov was chosen for its logistics connectivity, developed infrastructure, availability of a skilled workforce and the region's growth potential. The facility was designed so that its capacity can be expanded as demand evolves.
Hartmut Engler, Chief Executive Officer CWS Workwear: “Today's opening represents a major strategic step in strengthening CWS Workwear's presence in Central and Eastern Europe. Romania is a dynamic market with a strong industrial sector and our EUR 3 million investment allows us to meet growing demand for high-quality textile services. The new industrial laundry facility directly reflects our sustainability commitment: We are reducing our carbon footprint through new technologies, making resource consumption more efficient and offering our customers and partners a genuine circular economy model.” In addition to the industrial laundry, the investment includes a new distribution hub for collecting and delivering garments to customers, as well as new office space, strengthening CWS Workwear's operational infrastructure in Romania.
Andrei Teaha, Country Managing Director, CWS Workwear Romania: “The investment in Brașov is an important step in the development of CWS Workwear in Romania and reflects our confidence in the Romanian market. The new laundry facility allows us to be closer to our customers and to support the growth of our nationwide operations through efficient, safe and sustainable services”.
Technology and control across the entire operational flow
The new industrial laundry facility operates in two shifts, with the possibility of moving to three shifts as volumes grow. The operational flow covers the entire process, from sorting and washing to drying, quality control, repairs, packaging, storage and preparation for distribution to customers. Steam technology is used during the drying stage, protecting the processed garments and helping extend their usable life.
The facility integrates automatic detergent dosing systems and a clear separation between the area where soiled textiles are processed, and the area designated for clean garments to avoid cross-contamination. Quality control and repairs are integrated into the same flow and the CWS Workwear Repair App allows customers to flag garments requiring repair directly, using a photo and the barcode.
A model built on circular economy principles and superior safety standards
CWS Workwear’s Workwear as a Service (WaaS) model is built on circular economy principles and part of the company’s DNA and way forward. The direction is also reflected in the new facility's infrastructure, which includes its own wastewater treatment plant, designed for a volume of up to 110 m³ per day, and a thermal energy recovery system used to pre-heat the fresh water needed for the washing process.
Through its filtration systems, water recycling and automated detergent dosing, resource consumption is reduced by up to 50% compared to individual or non-industrial washing processes.
At the same time, industrial washing eliminates risks specific to production environments (degradation of the fire-resistant, antistatic or reflective treatments on protective equipment), offering the highest safety standards for employees.
