CWS and Emdion have joined forces to make the loosening of corona restrictions simpler and safer with a hygiene checkpoint

Duisburg/Emden, 1st September 2020. Almost all schools and businesses across Germany have already reopened. As such, the focus now must be on coming to terms with the much-discussed "new reality". This requires patience, a responsible approach and innovative ideas. In order to drive forward such ideas, the hygiene experts CWS and the sensor specialists Emdion have entered into a joint venture. In the future, smart hygiene solutions will be developed under the name HY-TEQ. The first joint project between these two partners is the innovative Liward® hygiene checkpoint, which allows persons with a raised temperature to be detected upon entering buildings such as department stores, elderly care homes and schools. A pilot project has just got under way in Northern Germany.
“As an innovation driver when it comes to hygiene, we want to offer support in the battle against corona with forward-looking ideas and solutions,” stressed Frank Reisgies, General Manager Hygiene Core Business at CWS. “The hygiene checkpoint, which we are launching in cooperation with Emdion, represents a very promising step. If the current pilot project and tests continue to be so successful, this solution will help to make life during the corona pandemic safer,” explained Mr Reisgies.
Anybody entering the Dr. Becker Clinic Norddeich at the moment has the chance to experience the first of these promising ideas first-hand. Visitors to the rehabilitation clinic are among the first in Germany to test the hygiene checkpoint, the brainchild of the joint venture between CWS and Emdion. Upon entering the building, visitors can quickly have their temperature taken voluntarily with the digital temperature detector. The goal is to protect both clinic staff and patients from contracting COVID-19.
The Liward® hygiene checkpoint features impressive sensor expertise and was developed by Emdion, a manufacturer of safety technology and communication and automation systems from Emden in Lower Saxony. This digital health solution is now to be made available to customers via CWS, the hygiene expert with impressive market proximity. The two partners have joined forces for future cooperations under the name HY-TEQ. The managing directors of HY-TEQ, based in Emden in Northern Germany, are Johannes Winterhager and Wilfried van Schwartzenberg. With this cooperation, the two partners are committed to contributing to greater health and safety in the community, especially in light of the current pandemic and greater awareness of the need for hygiene.
The health assistant is around the same size as a photo booth and is positioned in roofed entrance areas. Once a person steps in front of the hygiene checkpoint, their facial temperature is measured using a sensor. If the temperature is below a specified level, the door to the inside opens automatically. If the value is higher, the individual is notified by an automated voice and a member of staff comes to assist.
“The hygiene checkpoint ensures that only people without a raised temperature enter the building,” explained Stefan Szymanski, who is responsible for sales and project management at Emdion. “It can also perform a number of further optional functions,” continued Mr Szymanski. For example, the device is able to determine whether a person who would like to enter the building is wearing a face mask or not. Both these features make it easier to control and implement the mandatory hygiene measures. Further optional modules, such as determining whether the individual has disinfected their hands, will follow in the coming weeks.
The range of applications for this solution are virtually unlimited. “The health detector is ideal for schools, universities, offices, commercial buildings, authorities, banks, clinics, department stores and supermarkets to give just a few examples,” explained Karolin Rohmer, CWS’ Director Group Product Lines Hygiene & Floorcare, who is also responsible for this project at the company. As Germany starts to loosen its corona restrictions, CWS and Emdion are helping to ensure that the virus stays under control with this product innovation.
