Another major construction project is completed: with the completion and commissioning of the newly built Hygiene mat laundry at the Hamburg site, the seventh Floor Care mat laundry in Germany was opened in mid-February. The plant treats around 2,000 mats per day, which corresponds to about 12 tonnes of goods, and has 2 dryers as well as 2 washer extractors.
"We are pleased that the new mat laundry in Hamburg has started operations on schedule despite the ongoing pandemic. We are creating more jobs on site and can relieve the workload on our other mat laundry located in Solingen," says Markus Geuenich, Project Manager Operations, Excellence & Engineering at CWS Hygiene, who is pleased with the successful commissioning.
The laundry is resource-saving and sustainable due to state-of-the-art technologies: "Our laundry does not use a steam boiler and thus saves CO2. Our washing process has also enabled us to reduce the amount of fresh water required: We use less than five litres per kilogram. This is enormously low in comparison and pays towards the sustainability goals of the CWS Group," explains Tim Schwiete, Operations Manager of the new laundry.
With the introduction of the new laundry, the operation in northern Germany will switch to "rolled mats" in the short term, which increases the service life and quality of the mats. In contrast to folded mats, there is no crease in the mat when it is rolled, which affects the appearance, the lying function or the safety of the mat.
