From peel to soap: a sustainable approach to hand soap

This circular hand soap turns waste into a valuable raw material and helps reduce the environmental footprint.

Washing your hands with soap made with upcycled orange peel extracts? Yes, it's possible, and Unwaste is making it happen together with CWS Hygiene. After all, what else can you do with the 250 million kilograms of orange peels that are left over every year after squeezing fresh juice?
For most companies, these peels are waste, but for us, they are a valuable raw material. We give these peels a second life as a part of refreshing, circular hand soap for our soap dispensers.

Circular collaboration

Nature knows no waste. With this in mind, Unwaste developed a circular production process in which post-consumer orange peel extracts are upcycled into an ingredient for a hand soap with a natural origin content of 89%. CWS Hygiene saw this as an opportunity to make sanitary facilities even more sustainable.

"Nature knows no waste"

Bart Aupers, Co-     Founder of               Unwaste:

“Nature knows no waste. Unwaste gives organic waste streams a new function in personal care. Orange peels, for example, are the refreshing and nourishing ingredients in the soap used in CWS dispensers. Pure, and without waste.”
