Fire safety training

We can train your employees for an emergency through our fire safety training led in our branches or on site at your company, so they can act quickly

Fire safety training is mandatory – and vital

We’ve all seen the headlines. Huge fires result in severe damage to property and capital losses – not to mention the environmental impact. Fires cause all companies serious harm. They often result in production outages and business losses. Companies are therefore required to appoint employees who can fight a fire and begin to evacuate the building in a coordinated manner. Thanks to our extensive fire safety expertise, we’ll gladly support you with a range of fire safety training courses.

CWS offers the following fire protection training courses:

Why do fire safety training with CWS?

On the safe side

Fire safety training provides greater security for colleagues, buildings and facilities. They help you act quickly in an emergency and avoid major damage and high costs.

Training according to official requirements

We train your staff according to the Arbeitsschutzgesetz (“Occupational Safety and Health Act”), the Technischen Regeln für Arbeitsstätten (“Technical Rules for Workplaces”) and insurance requirements. The certificate is recognised by authorities and insurance companies.

Qualified trainers

Our trainers are qualified and often work as fire safety officers or volunteer as team leaders in the voluntary fire brigade.

All in one

We teach theory and practice at our branches across the country or at your company.

Online training

The theory part can also be done online during a live seminar. The firefighting exercise will take place at a later date at the CWS Fire Safety branch or by arrangement at your premises.

Our fire safety instruction comprises theoretical and practical elements, so you can put what you've learned straight to the test. Under Arbeitsschutzgesetz (“Occupational Health and Safety Act”) §12, employers are required to tell employees what they should do during a fire at least once a year.

Contents

  • Extinguishing fires with hand-held fire extinguishers
  • Fire classes and extinguishing tactics
  • Behaviour in case of fire
  • Dealing with fire doors
  • Understanding escape and rescue plans
  • Locating the assembly point

Overview

  • Duration: 2-3 hours
  • Location: on site at the customer
  • Group size: 10 persons / group
  • Language: German, English (on request)
  • Cost: depends on the number of participants you would like to train. We will gladly send you an offer!

Training content and questions about fire safety instruction

Why is fire safety instruction necessary?

Fire safety instruction is important, as it teaches employees as much as possible about preventing fires and fighting smoke and fire quickly and efficiently. It enables not only people, but also property and the environment to be protected as best as possible.

Who should conduct fire safety instruction?

There are three ways of training employees:

  • the company’s fire safety officer trains employees,
  • a manager carries it out; of course, the manager can get support from a fire safety and evacuation assistant or
  • a company specialising in fire safety, like CWS, provides a qualified trainer.

How often should fire safety instruction be carried out?

Each employee must be taught what to do in a fire at least once a year.

Fire safety and evacuation assistant training

Fire safety and evacuation assistants are both first responders in fire safety. All employers are required to appoint trained fire safety assistants, who understand and are aware of their role in a fire. They also have to brush up on their knowledge regularly through further training, so they're well prepared when the time comes.

Training content and questions about fire safety and evacuation assistants

What are the responsibilities of fire safety and evacuation assistants?

Fire safety assistants support the company’s fire safety officer, use fire safety equipment, help to rescue people and fight incipient fires. They also tell the fire brigade about fire drills. Fire safety and evacuation assistants share responsibilities among themselves, so everyone knows what to do if the alarm goes off.

How many fire safety assistants does a company need?

Legal regulations stipulate at least 5% of the people in a building. This may be more if there is an increased fire hazard. The building’s fire safety concept details the exact amount.

Who regulates the fire safety training?

Fire safety and evacuation assistants are trained in compliance with the following legal frameworks:

  • Arbeitsschutzgesetz (§10 ArbSchG) (“Occupational Health and Safety Act”)
  • Technische Regeln für Arbeitsstätten (ASR A2.2) (“Technical Rules for Workplaces”)
  • Allgemeine Sicherheitsvorschriften der Feuerversicherer (VdS 2038) (“The General Safety Procedures of Fire Insurers”)
  • Unfallverhütungsvorschrift (GUV-V A1) (“Accident Prevention Regulation”)

The Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung (§4 DGUV in combination with §12 ArbSchG) (“German Social Accident Insurance”) also requires managers to train their employees once a year. Whilst fire safety instruction applies to all employees, fire safety and evacuation assistant training must be completed by at least 5% of employees. This may be even more depending on the fire hazards in the company – the exact amount is detailed in the fire safety concept.
