Underground hydrant - advice & maintenance
Underground hydrants are valves sunk into the ground, which are directly connected to the water supply. They are usually located under a street cap and are used to enable the fire brigade, in the event of a fire, to draw water on-site if necessary.
Underground hydrants are marked from the outside by hydrant signs, which mark the exact position of the hydrant. A standpipe is required for water withdrawal, which is attached to the underground hydrant with a claw. The main shut-off valve is operated from above with a hydrant key. Underground hydrants are either installed at the roadside or at event sites.
Variants of underground hydrants:
- Height-adjustable underground hydrants
- Tele-hydrants (nominal diameters DN 80 and DN 100)
Maintenance of underground hydrants: Underground hydrants must be inspected by a competent person at least once a year. With a maintenance contract from CWS Fire Safety, regular maintenance is carried out automatically, which means that important deadlines are always met.
