Underground hydrant - advice & maintenance

Underground hydrants are fittings that are "sunk" into the ground and connected to the water supply. They are usually located under a street cap and are used by the fire brigade to draw water for firefighting on site. Underground hydrants are marked from the outside by signs indicating their exact location. A standpipe is required to draw off water and is attached to the underground hydrant by means of a claw. The main shut-off valve is operated from above with a hydrant key. There are the following variants of underground hydrants:

1. Height-adjustable underground hydrants
2. Tele-hydrants (nominal diameters DN 80 and DN 100)

Maintenance of underground hydrants

Underground hydrants must be inspected by a competent person at least once a year. With a maintenance contract from CWS Fire Safety, regular maintenance is carried out automatically, ensuring that important deadlines are always met.
Important specification for installation and operation: When installing and operating underground hydrants, the regulations of DIN 14462 and the Drinking Water Ordinance apply. A direct connection to the drinking water installation is not permitted in every case.
