Fire damper - advice, installation & maintenance
Fire dampers (also known as fire dampers) are installed in ventilation systems that normally ensure appropriate air purification in the building. In the event of a fire, the fire damper closes automatically and prevents smoke, fire and toxic gases from spreading via ventilation ducts to other parts of the building, floors or fire compartments (mechanical shut-off device). In this way, fire dampers protect people and the building.
How a fire damper works
In case of fire, fire dampers with holding/pulse solenoids are triggered by motor, pneumatically or with a fusible link (72 °C or 95 °C). As a rule, limit switches are installed to monitor the opening and closing of the fire damper. Depending on the design of the system, this is automatically switched off. The fire resistance duration for fire dampers is possible between 30 and 120 min.
Fire dampers comply with the following specifications
- EN 1366-2 (in accordance with EN 13501-3)
- Specifications of the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt)
- Ventilation system guideline (LüAR)
Use of smoke extraction dampers
Smoke extraction dampers are used to remove smoke from the building or certain sections of the building. As soon as a detector is triggered due to smoke, smoke fans are automatically driven to attract the smoke gas and discharge it out of the building via a special duct system.
Types of fire dampers
- Different types of fire dampers, some with cold smoke detection
- Fire damper disc valves
- Overflow dampers
- Kitchen exhaust dampers
Maintenance interval of a fire damper
Fire dampers must be serviced and inspected at least once a year by a competent person. Depending on the degree of soiling, maintenance may also be necessary at shorter intervals, for example, in dusty changing rooms or in kitchens where a lot of grease is used.
All-round carefree package: CWS carries out the consultation, planning and implementation for the installation of the fire dampers. Finally, you will receive all documentation with photos, installer's certificate, installation certificate, manufacturer's documentation and the declaration of performance for the individual fire dampers. In this way, you, the building authority and your insurance company can verify that the fire dampers have been installed correctly. With a maintenance contract from CWS, we carry out the maintenance of your fire dampers on time. Request a quote now.
