Fire damper - advice, installation & maintenance

Fire dampers prevent smoke and fire from spreading through ventilation ducts (cold smoke is also detected). They close automatically and thus prevent fires from spreading into adjacent fire compartments (mechanical shut-off device).

Fire dampers are required if ventilation systems have been installed in houses, office buildings and public facilities. The ducts of the ventilation systems penetrate countless ceilings and walls. Without the installation of additional fire protection precautions, there is no fire protection, even if special fire protection walls are involved. In the event of a fire, fumes and fire would make their way through the unprotected ventilation shafts. Fire dampers counteract this and thus protect buildings and people.

In the event of a fire, fire dampers with holding / pulse magnets are triggered by a motor, pneumatic or a fusible link (72 ° C or 95 ° C). As a rule, limit switches are installed with which the opening and closing of the fire damper can be monitored. Depending on the design of the ventilation system, it is switched off automatically. Smoke extraction dampers are used to extract smoke from the building or from certain building sections. As soon as a detector triggers due to smoke, smoke fans are automatically driven, which draw in the smoke gas and discharge it from the building via a special duct system.

At CWS you will find different variants of fire dampers, such as regular fire dampers, fire protection plate valves or special overflow or kitchen flaps. The installation can only be built into special walls and ceilings according to the manufacturer's requirements.

Our fire dampers meet the following requirements:

  • EN 1366-2 (following EN 13501-3)
  • Specifications of the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt)
  • German guideline for sample ventilation systems (LüAR)

Please note: Fire dampers must be serviced at least once a year by a competent person. Depending on the degree of soiling, maintenance is sometimes necessary at shorter intervals, for example in dusty changing rooms or in kitchens where a lot of work is done with grease. With the CWS all-round carefree package, this is not a problem: CWS provides advice, planning and implementation for the installation of fire dampers. Finally, you will receive all documentation such as photo documentation, installation certificates, manufacturer documents and the declaration of performance for the individual fire dampers. This means that you, the building authority and your insurance company can see that the fire dampers have been installed properly.
