In the age of a globalised economy, corporate social responsibility is becoming increasingly important. In this context, the complete value chain is coming into focus – especially in the area of textile manufacturing. Companies that wish to manufacture truly sustainable textile products need to consider the social and ecological standards of their suppliers as well. CWS therefore pays very close attention to these aspects when selecting its partners. An excellent example of this meticulousness is the cooperation with the Klopman company. For its sustainable clothing collections, CWS has been working very closely with the Italian textile manufacturer for many years.
Klopman: Pioneer in sustainability
Reducing environmental impact is an integral part of the corporate culture of the clothing specialist based in Frosinone. With its modern combined heat and power plant, the company uses the heat generated during production processes to generate electricity – covering 60 percent of its energy needs. Among other things, this enables Klopman to achieve significantly better values for CO2 emissions than those required by law. In 2015, the textile manufacturer already managed to stay 9,000 tons below the permitted annual limit. Sophisticated air extraction systems, recycled water and LED lights are other means by which Klopman reduces its environmental impact. In addition, the company was one of the first fabric manufacturers to publish a proper sustainability report.
Certified commitment
All Klopman textile products are certified with the Oeko-Tex® "Standard 100" label. The company also operates in accordance with the international ISO 14001 standard for environmental management systems. Finally, the Oeko-Tex®STeP certificate attests to Klopman's efficient use of resources in addition to environmental compatibility and compliance with socially acceptable working conditions.
“Sustainability begins in your own company. But the supply chain also plays an important role,” says Claus Bamm, Director Strategic Sourcing Workwear at CWS. “As a pioneer in sustainable fabric manufacturing, Klopman is an important partner for our service offerings. Through partnerships like this one, CWS ensures that we optimise sustainability performance inside and outside our own business operations.”
